Jamie Kubat is a multidisciplinary artist and writer based in Minneapolis, MN. Drawing on their experiences as a chronically ill person with a rural upbringing, their work blends storytelling, material specificity, and a love of nature into an exploration of queer and disabled life.
Their current project, Dream Magic, explores themes of dreams and transformation as they manage illness day-to-day. Quilts, soft sculpture, and vibrant drawings become a record—creating softness in hard circumstances, magic in the midst of a life lived primarily from bed.
Jamie has exhibited locally in spaces such as Soo Visual Arts Center, Mill City Museum, Fresh Eye Gallery, White Bear Center for the Arts, and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design Gallery. They have work in private collections nationally and the James K. Hosmer Special Collections (Minneapolis Central Library).
